Finally have a two car garage again.

Maybe this means I can get another toy soon.

That is all

Yup. Rented homes in the past. Monthly expenses should be going down but I’m on the hook for things like the water heater now - which coincidentally needs replacing. Should be fun.

Short list is:

Water heater, fence, furnace capacitor, garage door sensor, install five new appliances, counter top, new wood floors. Should legitimately be fun.

Congrats! It’s a big step, but you’ll  be happy you did.

I’m excited. Anxious to get everything moved in and to install new appliances.

Movers come tomorrow and 5 appliances drop tomorrow afternoon.

Also haven’t decided if I want to tackle the hot water heater myself or to just pay a plumber. I don’t normally shy away from plumbing or any other sort of repairs, but it would be nice to hand that off to someone else.

Then hopefully in the next 10 days I can dig some post holes and put up a fence.

Should be an exciting fall.

Do what I do: ignore all those pesky “needs” and pat yourself on the back for living frugally.

[Busts out snake for clogged laundry drain again]

I’m baaaack in the hiiiiigh life again...

We bought something on the low end of our budget because we wanted to renovate a few things and we have a lot left in savings still.

We couldn’t find a new house that was to our liking so we thought this was the next best thing to a totally new construction.

We'll also be doing the majority of the work ourselves.

They make flexy hose kits to install water heaters, if gas make sure the gas doesn't leak and vent is good.  If you are lucky it all screws on.  Use soapy water to check for gas leaks.  If you know all this my apologies, but if you don't, well, I'd hate to see a jalop blown up.  First apartment I ever lived in blew up due to a gas keak., luckily a few years after I lived there.

I’m not too worried about the gas piece. I’m installing a gas range and a gas dryer tomorrow.

And I already identified and fixed a tiny gas leak in the downstairs furnace. One of the pipes had come a tiny bit loose.

It’s lugging the stuff around that I don’t want to deal with for the water heater. But I may just suck it up and do it.

Congrats! :D

I am still slowly looking for a house of my own...really don’t want to import a 126p from Poland until I have a garage to put it in, and we don’t have one here at mom’s place. :(

One is just big enough for our ‘ 18 F150. But we’ll probably keep it parked on the driveway.

We plan on getting smaller vehicles in the next year.

If you can afford to do it, let the plumbers do it. You’ve got enough to do, and you’ll want that hot shower when you’re done.

P robably should have taken your advice. It’ s 3 am but everything is installed and functioning properly! Part of the delay was due to the dishwasher being smashed in by best buy, so we had to go exchange it.

Oh joy!  We had Best Buy install our new dishwasher, but there is some funny smell that we think might be due to to hooking a hose wrong. We gonna have to get in there.

Hmmm. Maybe the drain hose is backing up? That's weird. I haven't used mine much but I'm not 100% sure I did a great job with the drain hose. Should work well enough though

Then you should come check mine. It washes great, but if we leave it for a while between washes , it gets this rotten smell. At first we thought it was some weird chemical smell from the new  materials that would fade away, but it hasn’t. The internet tells us it can smell funny if one of the hoses is put in wrong so that’s the first thing I’ll check. My first thought was a backup as well.

The little I know all came from my brother in law. He was also extremely helpful this weekend.

Search for drain hose loop and drain hose smell. Basically, look under your sink and see if the drain hose enters at a low point and loops up and back down to the sink drain. This prevents back flow.

Mine enters at lowest point and I have it wedged between sink and cabinet currently to get a high loop. I forgot to get zipties.

That’s the extent of my plumber guestimating.

Edit: almost forgot about the P trap and location of drain. Make sure the drain hose is connected on the sink side of the P trap and not the sewer side. If it’s on the sewer side, then the sewer gasses can come up and into the dishwasher.

Thanks for the insights. I’ll keep them in mind as I go digging.
